The Chaotic Scot is a Scottish Travel Blog with content which provides readers with information and inspiration on travel and experiences in Scotland. It our priority and commitment to keep your personal data safe and secure under the GDPR regulations. This Privacy Policy details what kind of personal data we collect, what it’s used for, who has access to it, and how it’s kept safe.

Types of Data Collected

Cookies: We use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site, which device they have accessed the site on, whether they accessed via Google or social media, and their geographical location. This information is processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting the website.

Mailing List: So that we can send out an email newsletter, some personal data is collected. We obtain data such as your email address and name in order to send you relevant email updates with travel tips, announcements, new blog content, discounts and competitions. Our newsletters are delivered through a third party service, Mailchimp, and require opt-in consent and GDPR consent for marketing permissions by email. Consent may be revoked at any time by clicking the Unsubscribe button at the bottom of any newsletter. Comments: When leaving a comment on this blog, you will be required to enter some basic personal information, such as your name and email address. This data is only used to keep you updated with any replies to your comment in that thread. This data is not used to contact you outwith the blog, and is not passed on to any third parties. This data is hosted within our WordPress blog.

Security

The Chaotic Scot is a secure website and any data collected through the website is kept confidential. Data is only processed by myself (Kay Gillespie, the data controller). Data is kept secure through password protection.

In the unlikely case of a data breach, all users will be contacted within 72 hours and every effort will be made to secure or delete data as soon as possible.

Consent

The collection of data such as email addresses for mailing lists and comments is collected only with the users’ consent. The collection of data through cookies is collected only with the consent of users’ to use cookies through their specific browser.
